How To Set Up Your Chess Board

The first thing you need to do is make sure the bottom right hand square is white or light. If it is not you will have to start over. To set the pieces start with the the corners. The rooks go on all four corners. Next come the knights, the knights are placed next to the rooks. Then put the bishops on the board next to the knights. Next come the queens. Note the are always placed on the square of the same color. The White or light queen goes on the white or light colored square. The dark-colored queen goes on the dark-colored square.

Next, place the kings next to the queens. Lastly, add the pawns which go in front of all the other pieces. Now that you have all the pieces set up on your board you are ready to play chess! Remember if the bottom right hand square is not white or light, you have to start over and reset your board. We hope this has helped to make setting up your board easy. How The pieces move.

The KING- it is the tallest piece with a cross on the top. He can only move one square at a time, but he can move forward, backward, left, right and diagonally.

The QUEEN- The most powerful chess piece she will have a crown. She can move as many squares as she wants (without jumping another piece). She moves diagonally, vertically and horizontally.

The BISHOP- Has a hat of a bishop ther are two of these. They can only move diagonally without jumping any other chess pieces. One bishop starts on a light square the other on a dark square.

KNIGHT- It looks like a horse this piece moves 2 spaces forward, backward, left or right and then one space left or right, to make an "L" shape. This is the only chess piece that can jump other chess piices.

ROOK- This piece looks like a castle. This chess piece moves forward, backward, left and right as many spaces necessary without jumping another piece.

PAWN- These pieces are placed up in front of all the other pieces. The first move of the pawn can be 2 spaces forward, then only one space at a time the rest of the game.

Good information about a game many are afraid to try. Chess has always looked like a hard game to play. You make it seem logical and nothing to be afraid of.

If the Queen and King switched position in the start White King on white and Black King on Black and the game began would it still count as an official game after its been played?
